Complementary Therapies

Complementary therapies can help to restore the body’s natural equilibrium. When the body is relaxed and in balance, it can cope with the everyday stresses and strains of life much more effectively.

Complementary therapies can be used to target a specific physical, mental, emotional or spiritual problem, or as a preventative measure or purely for relaxation. They can boost the immune system, help eliminate toxins, help relieve pain, improve circulation, improve sleep patterns, increase energy levels, reduce stress and tension and restore balance to body systems. 

So, whether you have a specific health problem or you just want to increase your feeling of well-being, why not try one of these therapies and see what it can do for you.

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to promote healing and a feeling of well-being and relaxation in the recipient. The essential oils are extracted from the parts of herbs and plants and contain all the properties of the plants themselves. There are several ways of applying the oils, including adding the oils to your bath, or inhaling them, but the most popular and effective is through massage.

Following a full consultation, I create a synergistic blend of the most appropriate essential oils which are then added to a carrier oil to use during your treatment.

The treatment can be a full body massage, taking in the back and shoulders, legs, arms, face and head or a simple back massage or even a holistic facial and head massage. An aromatherapy massage should be gentle, but firm although of course you as the client will decide how much pressure is applied.

As the circulation increases, the oils are absorbed through the skin and carried round the body, allowing their healing effects to permeate to all the major body organs. By the time the massage is over you should be deeply relaxed, and feeling calm. Sometimes people even fall sleep.


Swiss Reflex Aroma Foot Massage

This treatment relaxes the body and mind, releasing tension and fatigue, combining the benefits of aromatherapy and reflexology, using massage on the reflex points of the feet to help improve well-being and promote good health. Many conditions can benefit from this treatment and provides an overall balancing treatment.

Following a foot reflex assessment, I will create a bespoke blend of essential oils combined with a cream to use during this very effective treatment. It works on the basis that parts of the feet (reflexes) correspond to different systems of the body and by working on these reflexes, the body is stimulated to function more effectively, restoring it to harmony and balance.

A suggested home treatment plan including your bespoke blend is also provided.



The practice of Reiki is an original method of healing, developed by Mikao Usui in Japan early in the 20th century. Reiki is a natural healing energy that works on every level, not just the physical, and is understood to promote the body’s regenerative self- healing ability.


We live in a world of energy that nourishes and maintains all living things. When this energy flows uninterrupted there is balance and harmony within and around us and we experience a sense of wellbeing. Reiki works at bringing us into balance and is believed therefore to reinforce the body’s natural ability to heal itself at all levels, whether physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. It is a tradition that is open to any belief system.

During the treatment, you will remain clothed and lie on the couch and relax. The treatment begins with a short, guided meditation which helps you to relax and focus on the breath, awareness of the body, releasing tension and focus on being in the present.

I then gently place my hands non-intrusively on or near the body. There is no massage or manipulation and the whole person is treated rather than specific symptoms. It is also possible to receive Reiki at a distance.

Clients may or may not feel sensations during a Reiki treatment. Benefits reported by clients include deep relaxation promoting a calm, peaceful sense of wellbeing on all levels.



Aftercare advice

Following your treatment:

  • Drink plenty of water over the next 24 hours following treatment
  • If you feel tired, rest as much as possible.
  • Avoid heat treatments (bath, sauna, etc) for at least 24 hours.
  • Avoid sun beds or the sun if certain oils have been used.
  • Avoid strenuous activity or exercise for the rest of the day after treatment
  • Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours.
